Shoot Out In Repulse Bay!

There was an armed standoff in Repulse Bay yesterday.  It took place in the house right across the street from where we used to live.  It was a guy that used to buy a lot of propane from me (for the purpose of sniffing), in the house of the old guy in town that sold me a carving of a narwhal.  The whole town was shut down, and some of our old friends (school teachers) were not let out of school until 9 in the evening.  We were following the story pretty close last night (hence the lack of blog), and I was going to report on that today, to say that I guess a few broken windows that we got here on Sunday wasn't actually so bad.
And then today happened.  Both of our cashiers cashed their cheques on their way to lunch, and then never returned.  Then, our postal clerk had to leave for a while.  When she came back, she wreaked of weed and informed us that she had a new job and wasn't coming back.  So in the course of two weeks:
  1. The couple that we were working with went on vacation for a month.
  2. The fax machine/printer went on the fritz.
  3. The office lady phoned in one morning to say that she wasn't coming back.
  4. The ATM died, increasing the amount of traffic in the already empty office.
  5. We got word that we were still planning to have my boss come in, so that we could go ahead with a general merchandise inventory this weekend.
  6. The postal clerk and both full time cashiers didn't work past lunch, and aren't coming back.
So, we have no office person, no postal clerk, and no cashiers.  Fran is the only person in the building that knows the post office, and is also the person responsible for getting the store ready for an inventory.  The boxes that she was going through this morning (before the wheels fell off), arrived at the store in October of 09.  Not only was this place falling apart when we got here, it has gotten progressively worse in the last two weeks.  It certainly looks like we're in way over our heads here.
Now... just when all of the activity in Repulse Bay was making it look over here like it could certainly be worse, it got worse.  At least my boss will be here within two days, and he can see for himself what kind of challenges we're up against, instead of just seeing it in emails where he has the ability to just tell us to get over it and move on.    This is definitely the first time that even I have felt like there could certainly be a limit to how much more of this kind of crap I can put up with just so that I can say that we had an event filled adventure.

Stay tuned.
